Please, Please Don't Go.

The SID has just announced that Oval Jaynes is retiring as Athletics Director at Jacksonville State. Mr. Jaynes has been a tremendous leader for JSU and has helped the athletic program in countless ways. His leadership will be missed.

  1. We'd love an article on who is on the "short list".

  2. My hat is off to Oval James. He in a short time, contributed more to Jacksonville State athletics than anyone I have observed. I only hope the next AD will take the lead set by Mr James and help us to the nest level in football. Anything other than FBS, will put JSU back 20 years. I was a student when we beat up on Troy regularly. Had we had the visionaries, and open minded approach men like mR James brought, we would already be where Troy is now. A sucessful BCS college football program. I recently read a comment by Coxwell that he felt we were getting offered some incentives by the OVC. Of course we are! If we leave the Ovc might as well go Division II.
I can only speak for myself, but if the Boaard of Trustees takes the approach of being a big fish in a little pond, as opposed to progressively moving forward,......then I am finished with JSU athletics. It is time for our university to get the recognition it deserves on the athletic field. Not only would a BCS football program bring that kind of recognition to the University, but would help promote our other athletic programs.
It is time for this university to be recognized for more on the football field than it's halftime performances.

  3. Should Dr. Meehan ask for my advice (insert hysterical laughter here), I would tell him the next JSU athletic director should have a strong background in marketing and fundraising, be old enough to have accumulated significant experience at an FBS school and be young enough to guide JSU for the next 10 years or so.

  4. Dang, I really like that Funderburg fella. He seems to have the right idea.
