Gamecocks Add High Quality Running Back

News reports out of South Georgia:

Murray to play at JSU: Glynn Academy running back Trent Murray will sign a grant-in-aid to play football at Jacksonville State University as a preferred walk on. Murray will be able to earn scholarship money after the season.

Murray, who was named Region 2-AAAA Player of the Year, rushed for 1,070 yards and 15ouchdowns for the Red Terrors this season.

Our comment: This seems like a great pick up for the team. Murray has been clocked at 4.4 and seems like he could be a nice contrast to bruisers Calvin Middleton, Drec Lindley and Jahron Brown. Also, we continue to hear good things about redshirt Richard Freelon. Finally, don't be surprised if a big time transfer comes our way.

  1. At 5-8 and 165, Murray sounds like a Jamal Young clone. Since Young will be a senior in 2010, it seems pretty logical that Murray will be redshirted this year and will step into Young's role in 2011.
