If you want to know what's going on in camp, the SID's office is doing a nice job with daily updates. Also, Coach Crowe has a facebook page with some intriguing information. Here is a summary of information from various sources:
*The staff loves the athletic ability of incoming freshman, Eli Jenkins. His physical ability compares favorably with safety, Pierre Warren, and the Gamecocks may give him a look as a defensive back.
*There may be a big time cornerback transfer, but its only a rumor and we don't have the details.
*Alan Bonner and Dimetrio Tyson are showing senior leadership.
*Unheralded freshman wide receiver, Dalton Screws, really impressed the coaches on the first day of practice.
*You keep hearing the name, Markis Merrill, a wide receiver from Florida that sat out last year. He may be a game changer.
*A great article in the print edition of the Anniston Star quotes Buster Pope as saying he wants to set the all-time record for rushing yards by a Gamecock freshman. The record is currently held by Boyce Callahan, we will see if he can do it. Ealey and Pope have developed a special bond. Loved a quote from Ealey that he loved "the family atmosphere" at JSU.
*The Gamecocks have an Australian punter that Coach Crowe smiles about every time he is mentioned. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
*Apparently, all players expected to report, did report.
*He is not even listed on the two deep depth chart, but offensive lineman Tee Hardin, from Irwin high school is a guy that generates a buzz. He has an amazing combination of athletic ability and size. Another newcomer on the line, Thomas Williams from Vigor, has the physical tools to be one of the greatest ever at JSU.
*The team that prays together, stays together. The Gamecocks are going to church together this Sunday.
*I'm worried about the defensive line and linebackers with the loss of Texas, Wadley, M. Lewis and Jack Jackson from last year's team. Someone drop me a line and tell me we are going to be alright so I can sleep at night.
