Here Comes Trouble!

Jsugamecocksports.com announced that Raheam "Trouble" Buxton has joined the Gamecocks via transfer from Western Michigan University.  Buxton, a defensive back, will join his former WMU teammate, Trey Smith, on the Gamecocks squad.

Buxton's was a consensus three star  player out of high school and was rated as one of the top 90 cornerbacks in the nation..  He originally committed to the Miami Hurricanes, but NCAA clearinghouse issues delayed his admission and he wound up at WMU.  Miami's scholarship offer to  Buxton was warranted.  He ended up starting five games for WMU as a true freshman, totalling 25 tackles, an interception and several pass break ups.  Hilights from his freshman season are here.

However, during that same year, tragedy struck.  On the night before one of his games, Buxton's brother died as a result of gunshot wounds.  Click here for the story.   Buxton played on, however.  Then, in September, 2011 he was abruptly dismissed from the team for undisclosed reasons.  Click here

Here is hoping that Buxton will thrive in the "family" atmosphere Washaun Ealey described that permeates the Jacksonville State football program.  If he does, he might just join AJ Davis and TJ Heath as Gamecock DBs in the NFL.
