5 Keys to the A & M Game

1 – Attitude. First, avoid a letdown. After battling FSU for the full 60 minutes last week, one thing the Gamecocks have to guard against is an emotional letdown. Second, avoid being overconfident. Its clear that we have a good team and the players know it. But, JSU can't take anything for granted and still must play hard and execute regardless of the opposition. This team has endured a lot over the last few months, but has proven their character with diligent work and effort.

2 – Establish the running game. While a lot of it has to do with the quality of competition, JSU certainly wants to reestablish its usually dominant power running game. Our efforts have been hampered as we have missed Drec Lindley, who has been out with a broken hand. Getting Middleton off to a good start in the game could take some pressure off of our offense. The passing game will open up when A & M has to bring up their safety to stop the run.

3 – Win the turnover battle. Every week, this is a key. Turnovers change momentum. Stay on top of A & M and don’t give them any breaks.

4 – Stop the A&M Playmakers. Their wide receiver Thomas Harris is a playmaker. He may be capable of single handedly changing the complexion of this game. See blog article below. A&M also has a great running back in Ulyses Banks and a very good quarterback in Kevin Atkins. If JSU can figure out a way to nuetralize these three players, it will win the game.

5 – Eliminate A&M intangibles. For some reason, A&M was really mad about last year's game. It couldn't be the officiating- they lost by 27 points. Their fans were treated with hospitality- JSU opened up a tailgate area specifically for the visitors. Their band received a standing ovation from our fans. But, anyway, there is a revenge factor here. If JSU can take control early, it takes the game out of the officials hands and eliminates the A&M emotional factor.

  1. I think the A&M fans were all upset because Ryan chose JSU after visiting Normal the week before, but honestly, can anyone blame him?
